Suspect arrested for possession of suspected stolen vehicle

Free State police in Sasolburg have recovered a suspected stolen vehicle and arrested a 52-year-old man following a high-speed chase.

According to police spokesperson Josephine Rani, officers received a complaint about a vehicle theft on Fichardt Street. “Acting promptly on the information, members proceeded along the R59 route towards Vanderbijlpark, where the stolen vehicle was spotted,” she said.

Rani added that a high-speed chase ensued, leading to the interception of the vehicle at the Mabulala traffic lights in Vanderbijlpark. The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by police at the scene.

The 52-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court soon, where he will face charges of possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
