Woman arrested for illegal possession of firearm

The Free State police in Mangaung have arrested a 29-year-old woman for allegedly being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to Free State police spokesperson, Mahlomola Kareli, the arrest was made on Saturday (30/05) during a routine vehicle checkpoint operation conducted by police officers in the area.

“During the search, the officers successfully recovered one .38 revolver firearm and five live rounds of ammunition. The illicit weapon and ammunition were found in the possession of a 29-year-old female passenger,” Kareli said.

The woman was immediately arrested and detained on charges relating to the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Police have confiscated the firearm and ammunition as part of their ongoing investigation.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon, while investigations continue.
