Deputy minister leads road safety and infrastructure inspections in Free State

Deputy minister of transport Mkhuleko Hlengwa began a two-day oversight visit to the Free State with a stakeholder engagement at the OR Tambo Building in Bloemfontein yesterday (16/7).

The visit includes engagements with government stakeholders, road infrastructure inspections and road safety activations across the province.

Speaking during the engagement, Hlengwa said the visit forms part of government’s efforts to strengthen transport infrastructure, improve road safety and accelerate service delivery.

“Transport is the backbone of economic growth and social development. It enables people to access opportunities, supports economic activity and creates an environment where businesses and communities can thrive,” he said.

The deputy minister is expected to engage with provincial and municipal transport authorities during the remainder of the programme.

Free State MEC for community safety, roads and transport Jabu Mbalula emphasised that the visit demonstrates government’s commitment to improving transport infrastructure and service delivery across the province.

“This oversight visit provides an opportunity to assess both our achievements and the challenges we continue to face, while identifying practical solutions that will enhance the quality and safety of our road network,” he said.
