Zanchieta Wildlife Rescue will host its 67 Minutes for Wildlife campaign at Pretty Gardens Shopping Centre on Friday (17/7) from 10:00 to 15:00, collecting essential donations for rescued animals while encouraging the community to support wildlife conservation this Mandela Day. Locals can bring pet food, cleaning products and animal care essentials.
The National Museum Bloemfontein will spend Mandela Day (17/7) at Talitha Cumi Children’s Home, teaching vegetable gardening skills and sharing a meal with the children. The museum is also collecting seedling packets, non-perishable food, baby food and baby-care essentials until 16 July at its reception on 36 Aliwal Street.
The University of the Free State’s Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences plans to celebrate Mandela Day by partnering with the Occupational Therapy Field at National District Hospital for The Great Wall to Freedom. The sustainability project, taking place on Friday (17/7) from 10:00 to 15:00, will transform recycled materials into a meaningful community installation.
New Beginnings is inviting the community to spend 67 minutes with its shelter animals during Mandela Week until Friday (17/7). Visitors can book a time slot to walk dogs, cuddle cats and give rescued animals some much-needed love and attention. The cost is R67 per person, with bookings required.
Inibos parkrun is encouraging community members to spend 67 minutes volunteering this Mandela Day. On Saturday (18/7), participants can support the weekly event by marshalling, barcode scanning, timekeeping or cheering on fellow walkers and runners, helping create a welcoming parkrun experience for all.
The Salvation Army’s Mangaung Corps Women’s Ministries will mark Mandela Day with a community outreach at its Batho church from 10:00. The initiative will include the distribution of pre-loved clothing, blankets and soup, and a fun day for children. Donations of good-quality clothing and soup ingredients are welcome.
A blanket, scarf and soup handover will take place at Kommisdrift in Thaba Nchu on Saturday (18/7) at 11:00 as part of the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative. The event will be hosted in partnership with Her Majesty Kgosi Gaboilelwe Moroka and the GBFS of St Patrick Church.
