ADVERTORIAL: Shaping the future of property through innovation and family values

From military discipline at sea to the boardrooms of South Africa’s built environment, TNT Property Group’s story is one of precision, family collaboration and forward-thinking development.

Group CEO Thato Nthunya is a seasoned Quantity Surveyor with more than two decades of experience across the public and private built environment sectors. His career spans operational, senior and executive roles, including work in policy development at provincial treasury level and infrastructure delivery across various government departments.

“The year 2004 I cut my teeth at the South African Navy, did a 12-month military training at sea and qualified as a seaman. This had a profound influence in my leadership style (humility with precision),” he shares.

That foundation of discipline would later shape a leadership approach defined by structure, accountability and long-term vision.

After years in public service, Thato transitioned into the private sector in 2024, where a defining idea soon emerged. By 2025, TNT Property Group was born as a family-led venture built on complementary expertise in project management, finance and built environment delivery.

The company was established with the intention to deliver integrated, end-to-end property solutions. “The vision was primarily family-driven considering that my wife has a rich project management background and my brother has a rich finance background, together we could move a needle in that industry.”

Today, TNT Property Group operates across asset management, facilities management, property development and property management, designed to respond to the full lifecycle of the property sector.

Thato believes the industry will be shaped by technological integration, data-driven efficiency and a strong shift toward sustainability. The company is actively positioning itself within this evolving landscape, with a focus on innovation and responsible development.

“We would like to grow at a pace and scale we can afford given the economic landscape. Our medium to long term growth plans involves perfecting our current craft and expanding our service offering towards areas complementary to our current structure. We want to be remembered as the organisation that proved profitability and aggressive green development are not mutually exclusive. We aim to set a new benchmark for net-zero carbon operations across the industry.”

Student accommodation has also emerged as a key focus area, particularly in university cities where demand continues to outpace supply. TNT Property Group sees this as both a challenge and an opportunity to expand access through compliant, accredited private-sector solutions.

Sustainability remains central to the group’s philosophy, with a growing emphasis on environmentally responsible development and long-term impact. This is further reinforced through its corporate social investment initiatives, including partnerships with the 2026 Mangaung Lemo Marathon and the Ntswaki M Foundation for Education, with a strong focus on wellness and learning.

Beyond business, Thato maintains a grounded lifestyle as an avid runner with several half-marathons behind him, and a long-standing ambition to return to cycling.

With its blend of experience, family-driven leadership and future-focused strategy, TNT Property Group is steadily carving out a space as a values-led player in the local evolving property landscape.

“We believe that modern property development thrives where innovation meets sustainability, creating spaces that inspire progress while preserving the planet,” he concludes.
