The Mangaung Child Justice Centre and the department of Social Development in partnership with the and several community organisations brought hope and practical support to elderly residents in Matlhomola, Bloemfontein, as part of a Nelson Mandela Day outreach on Friday (17/07).
The initiative was held under the theme Dignity Cleaning for Elderly Residents, showed officials and volunteers from the Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport, OVV and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) come together to assist two elderly households identified as being in need of support.
Volunteers spent the day deep-cleaning the homes and surrounding yards to improve the living conditions of the beneficiaries. The elderly residents also received warm, nutritious soup, with extra portions left for later, as well as dignity packs containing essential toiletries, blankets and food parcels.
The outreach highlighted the importance of caring for vulnerable members of the community and demonstrated how collaboration between government departments and community partners can make a meaningful difference.
By dedicating their time and resources to those in need, the volunteers embodied the values of compassion, service and solidarity that Nelson Mandela Day seeks to inspire.
