FS government fills Msibi’s position and distances itself from Magashule’s poisoning allegations

The Free State Department of Police, Roads, and Transport says the position of the Head of the Department (HOD) has officially been filled.

This, after the death of Sandile Msibi who died following an illness, last month. Departmental Spokesperson, Hillary Mophethe, told OFM News an acting HOD, Mr Robinson Thekiso, has been appointed. Msibi’s death has since been marred with a controversy of having been poisoned. Mophethe says although they are aware of such speculations, they will not comment.

“We cannot comment on this because we are not an investigation directorate. We are a government department. So, we cannot speak on private matters. I believe that’s a matter where the department has no capacity to speak on”.

This, after reports that the newly elected SG, Ace Magashule, publicly claimed that Msibi had been poisoned. It is said that Magashule revealed this at Msibi’s funeral in Parys.

Msibi died while under investigation by the Hawks, following allegations that he channelled millions of state money to his personal attorney, coupled with allegations that he secured a multimillion-rand government contract for a close friend.

In a statement, the DA in the province said they are shocked by the poisoning allegation by Magashule and will be submitting written questions to the Office of the Premier to ask whether an autopsy was performed to confirm poisoning and whether a case of murder has been reported for further investigation.
