Jabu Mbalula steps in as acting Free State Premier during Letsoha-Mathae’s absence

Free State MEC for community safety, roads and transport, Jabu Mbalula, has officially stepped into the role of Acting Premier while MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae is abroad on official duties.

Mbalula will serve in the position from 4 to 11 May 2026, this is to ensure continuity in leadership and governance during the Premier’s absence.

According to the Free State Provincial Government (FSPG) the premier has appointed the MEC for agriculture, rural development and environmental affairs, Elzabe Rockman, as the Acting MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism for the same period.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Free State Division of the High Court on Monday (4/5) presided over by Judge President Cagney John Musi.
