The Free State Provincial Government has pledged to intensify efforts to drive economic transformation and youth empowerment, with Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae saying the province will “enjoy no rest” until the economic aspirations of young people are realised.
Speaking during the Letsema Cleaning Campaign held at Kgorathuto Secondary School in Botshabelo on 16 June , the Premier outlined plans for a large-scale industrialisation drive aimed at reshaping the Free State’s economic landscape and expanding employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.
She said the anticipated R400 billion investment pipeline would serve as a catalyst for growth, positioning the province as a key hub for industrial development and long-term economic progress.
“This initiative will not only transform the economic trajectory of the Free State but will also dismantle barriers to economic participation and create a pool of opportunities for young people,” Letsoha-Mathae said.
The Premier encouraged young people to embrace available opportunities, including forming cooperatives and submitting business proposals to the department of economic development and tourism for funding support.
“Young people must not despise humble beginnings. This Letsema is intended to inculcate a culture of service, responsibility and patriotism within our communities,” she said.
Marking Youth Day, Letsoha-Mathae urged the current generation to draw inspiration from the youth of 1976 by pursuing education, innovation and disciplined hard work as tools for empowerment and sustainable development.
She was joined by the Deputy Executive Mayor of Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, Mangaung District Director of Education December Moloi, Councillor Lulama Titi Odili, and Ward 35 councillor Teboho Fantisi.
