Severe weather expected nationwide

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning for cold, wet and windy conditions expected to affect large parts of South Africa from 4 to 7 May.

According to SAWS, the adverse weather is linked to a cut-off low-pressure system moving across the country, bringing prolonged rainfall, strong winds and severe thunderstorms.

“Heavy rainfall, possible flooding, damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning are expected, particularly in the Free State, North West, Northern Cape, and parts of the Eastern and Western Cape,” SAWS said.

Residents are urged to remain alert and take necessary precautions during this period. In case of emergencies, Mangaung residents can contact the following services:

• Mangaung Fire Department: 051 406 6666 / 051 409 9600 or toll-free 107
• Centlec (power outages): 051 409 2345 / 086 007 6937 or WhatsApp 068 178 0700
• Ambulance: 10177
