DUANE PETRUS The attack on a Bainsvlei couple in their home earlier this year was very brutal and extremely severe, and the husband could have died had he not received medical attention on time.
Dr Christiaan Loubser, a trauma surgeon who treated the couple, testified in the Bloemfontein High court today about the injuries they sustained during the attack.
Elizabeth and Pieter Kolver were assaulted for hours by two men in February at their smallholding.
Pieter was shot twice by the men and stabbed with a garden fork, while Elizabeth was repeatedly hit with a firearm.
Loubser testified that Pieter’s brain was very swollen and suffered bleeding as well.
Their daughter held her hands before her mouth as Loubser explained the extent of the injuries her parents sustained.
The men took off with R130 000, £360, two firearms, a safe and a cellphone.
The trail against Johannes Taaibosch and Lebogang Molawa continues tomorrow.
They are also implicated in a housebreaking at another home in Bainsvlei two days prior to the attack on the Kolvers.
