FS economy deteriorated

REFILWE MEKOA

The MEC of Treasury in the Free State says the economic outlook and its growth rate have deteriorated.

Elzabe Rockman says the economy is not growing as expected. There is less revenue available. Rockman was speaking at the budget amendment delivery bill at the legislature. She says there is less money coming from the national department and they are challenged to do more work on a minimum budget.

Rockman says existing credit cards of officials will be cancelled from the 1st of December and departments will also limit the usage of consultants to cut costs.

“Until mid-January next year, it will be part of our programme to restructure the budget of the province and reprioritise to see where we can make a difference. We have to do that while taking the national development plan into account and revising the Free State growth development strategy. We know we have to address all these areas,” she says.
