Four arrested for attempted murder

Police in Meloding have arrested four suspects, aged between 27 and 36, in connection with an attempted murder case following the brutal assault of a man at his parental home.

According to Free State police spokesperson Palesa Thabana, the suspects were wanted after an African male was allegedly attacked with dangerous weapons on Friday (10/07) at his home in Meloding. “It is alleged that on the day of the incident, six males forcefully entered the victim’s home, assaulted him, and accused him of stealing their drugs,” said Thabana.

The victim sustained severe injuries to his head and body and was transported to hospital for medical treatment. A case of attempted murder was opened and an investigation was launched.

On Monday (13/07) police received information regarding the whereabouts of some of the suspects, leading to the arrest of four men. During the operation, police also confiscated several dangerous weapons believed to have been used in the assault. The weapons, which have been booked into evidence, include pangas, knives, a tonfa, a spear and a sjambok.

The four suspects are expected to appear in the Virginia Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder.
