Duane Petrus – The Minister of Transport will be in the Free State tomorrow to launch an interchange and overpass on the N8 road at Thaba Nchu, which costed over R100 million to construct.
The department’s provincial spokesperson, Hillary Mophethe, says the aim of this overpass is to minimise fatalities of pedestrians who regularly cross the road.
Mophethe says the N8, which is one of the busiest national roads in the province, has been the scene of many horrific accidents over the years.
She says the multi-million project took over a year to complete. She added that about 157 locals have benefitted, in terms of employment, during the course of the project.
“This road leads us to the Maseru border, and there is plenty of business between Lesotho and South Africa.
There is also plenty of travelling by from Ladybrand and Thaba Nchu to Bloemfontein that use this road,” Mophethe said.
The minister, Dipuo Peters, MEC Butana Komphela and Premier Ace Magashule will be present at the launch which will take place at the Albert Moroka Secondary School in Thaba Nchu.
