Suspect in court for armed robbery at Bothaville farm

A suspect is expected to appear in the Bothaville Magistrate’s Court today in connection with a robbery on a farm in which three women were held at gunpoint on Friday.
Free State police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, says four armed men arrived at a farm in the Bothaville district at about 19:00. They were driving a white Nissan bakkie. The suspects entered the house and overpowered the women.

The suspects demanded money. They took a pistol and an undisclosed amount of money. The victims did not sustain serious injuries. The suspects fled the scene in the same vehicle they arrived with.

Thakeng says police reacted swiftly and with the help of local farmers spotted the bakkie near the farm. Police followed the vehicle but later lost track of it. A 30-year-old suspect believed to be connected with the robbery was arrested a few hours later outside Orkney.

Thakeng says the suspect was in possession of a police reflector jacket. Police are still searching for three men in connection with the incident. – Christal-Lize Muller
