Winter is a difficult time for non-profit community organisations, as the demands for their services increase during this time of the year. According to the vice president of local animal rescue shelter New Beginnings, Natalie Kotzé, the organisation is in need of donations for their outreach that will be hosted at the end of the month.
“We help hundreds of animals as well as their owners. We also need blankets for our shelter dogs. We use many blankets during winter. Donations are definitely slower during winter time,” she explained.
New Beginning is also working on various projects to broaden its footprint when it comes to assisting the community. This includes the Buy a Brick campaign, where donors can buy a brick for R250 and get their name painted on it; the photo competition, where locals can win prizes as a way to raise funds; and the Jars of Hope project to feed a hungry family.
