Kovsies SRC elections underway

LINDA FEKISI

Student Representative Council (SRC) elections began today at the University of the Free State’s main campus. It has been three years since the Rector of the UFS, Jonathan Jansen, banned the involvement of political parties as part of student leadership there.

The outgoing president, William Clayton, says that these elections, which will end tomorrow, are going very well and that students are already voting in numbers. He also explained how the each candidate needs a minimum of 25% of the votes in order to get into office. Mr Clayton also highlighted the quality of the candidates who are contesting for presidency. “It is a hotly contested portfolio. I think that it could be any one of the three, they are all good candidates. It is a tighter race than I have seen in previous years“, he said.

Voting stations are located in all the residences and around campus.
