UFS plans veterinary sciences school on South Campus

The University of the Free State (UFS) has announced plans to establish a School of Veterinary Sciences on its South Campus in Bloemfontein.

In a statement released by the university, UFS said the proposed school will offer a professional Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) degree aimed at meeting professional veterinary education standards in South Africa.

According to the university, the South Campus already has strong physical and technological infrastructure, including student residences, the Neville Alexander Library, lecture halls and communal student spaces. “The lecture halls and laboratories on the campus are being upgraded and remodelled for the training of future veterinarians,” UFS said.

The university further explained that the establishment of the veterinary school is progressing in line with the professional requirements of the South African Veterinary Council, as well as national higher education regulatory requirements.

“Once professional registration and programme accreditation have been granted, and once all regulatory requirements have been met, the programme will be formally advertised and opened for applications for admission to the programme,” the university added.

Prospective students have been encouraged to monitor the university’s official communication platforms and the UFS website for updates regarding programme readiness and application timelines.
