Heuwelsig residents buy their own water

SABRINA DEAN – Residents in the high-lying northern suburbs of Bloemfontein might be left without water until at least the weekend.
This warning came via a real estate company, which informed residents in Heuwelsig and Pentagon Park to make alternate arrangements as they are only expected to have water by Saturday. Heuwelsig, Hillsborough and a few other areas have been without  water since Tuesday, allegedly due to maintenance work underway at Maselspoort.
Madelyn Fourie, who works at the Heuwelsig Spar, says they have been drawing water from a container at the church to do baking and cleaning up in the store, but says she can see the impact on customers. "It’s really bad for everyone. Every trolley that comes past  where I am standing at the moment has at least two or three big 5l bottles of water. People need water," she says.
Municipal spokesperson Qondile Khedama meanwhile could not yetconfirm whether the water will be switched on today as originally expected or only at a later stage. He earlier told Bloemfontein Courant he is still waiting for a feedback report.
