Two arrested in Meloding for possession of explosives

Two men, aged 37 and 47, have been arrested in Meloding for the unlawful possession of explosives.

According to Free State police spokesperson Palesa Thabana, police acted on information regarding suspects who were allegedly in possession of explosives with the intention of selling them.

“Information indicated that the alleged suspects were looking to sell the explosives to interested buyers. Information was operationalised and led members to an address in Senzela Section in Meloding,” Thabana explained.

Thabana said police proceeded to the identified address, where a search was conducted and 11 cone pack explosives were discovered. “The explosives unit was summoned to the scene for the handling and removal of the explosives. The eleven (11) Cone Pack Explosives were confiscated and booked in as evidence,” she said.

The two suspects are expected to appear in the Virginia Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to the unlawful possession of explosives.
