In light of violence in Heidedal over the past weekend, the Heidedal Social Cycling Club has taken a firm stand against gangsterism and crime in the community.
The club expressed condolences to the families who lost loved ones, describing the incidents as senseless and devastating. Founding member and media liaison Justin Colbert emphasised violence robs communities of safety and hope and should never be accepted as normal.
The club called for stronger partnerships between residents, leaders, law enforcement, and organisations to prevent further incidents. It highlighted the importance of youth development, encouraging education, mentorship, and skills programmes as alternatives to crime.
Community members are urged to report criminal activity, support affected families, and create safe spaces for dialogue. “Our deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones who have lost someone as a result of this senseless violence. Your pain is seen, your grief is shared, and your loss will never be forgotten. We stand with you in mourning, and we honour the lives that were taken far too soon,” he said.
Ward councillor Logan Kruger confirmed a community meeting combined with a prayer service will be held at Norman Doubell Hall on Sunday, 12 April, at 15:00.
Kruger explained the meeting is intentional and aimed at finding solutions to violence in the community.
