Celebrations for International Social Workers Day have begun

Celebrations of International Social Workers Day have started in the Free State Province on Friday.

International Social Workers Day is annually celebrated worldwide on 15 March. Social Worker from the Free State Department of Social Development, Gcotyiswa Mtiya, says the day is commemorated in taking pride in the daily contributions that social workers make in communities and peoples’ lives.

According to Mtiya this also promotes the profession of social work.

“We are still in dire need of more social workers. The theme for this year is to promote the dignity and worth of social workers. However, every year on this day, we are always putting other people’s needs first and we decided that for this year, we should be selfish and take the opportunity to motivate ourselves and ensure that we become stronger in this profession.”
