Two more arrested for FS cop killing

Two more suspects have been arrested for the murder and attempted murder of Free State police officials that took place this past weekend in Orkney outside Klerksdorp in the North West.

OFM reports that this now brings the number of those who have been apprehended for the killing of Lloyd Poonyane (41) and wounding of Lydia Tladi (45) to four. OFM News understands that these two suspects, said to be Lesotho nationals, were arrested last night in Soweto near Johannesburg in Gauteng where the first suspect (38) was arrested. Police, which included the Hawks and forensic experts, retrieved a firearm that was robbed from the slain Poonyane. The police are still looking for one last suspect.

Five firearms, vehicles allegedly used during the proceeds of the said crime in Orkney, and several cell phones were recovered. OFM News previously reported that the police had made a breakthrough when they arrested two suspects in these murder and attempted murder cases.

Police spokesperson, Vish Naidoo, earlier reported that the first suspect was apprehended in Soweto and the second one in Embalenhle near Secunda in Mpumalanga on Sunday night. The duo was arrested in less than 48 hours following a 72-hour plan activation. Naidoo said the two will, amongst others, likely face charges of murder and attempted murder in the Orkney Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 13 February 2020.

The police are yet to comment.
