Two children drown in Bfn quarry

Police have opened an inquest docket at Bloemspruit police station, Bloemfontein, following the death of two children whose bodies were discovered this past weekend.

According to police spokesperson in the Free State, Thabo Cuvane, two children, aged 15 and 16 respectively, were found dead inside the Bloemspruit quarry. Cuvane said police were called to the scene at Kleintjies Plot, Meadows Road, just outside of Bloemfontein. He said upon their arrival, police discovered the body of a 15-year-old by from Heidedal and a 16-year-old girl from Plot 196, who had allegedly gone swimming in the quarry. Cuvane said further investigations will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

This incident was followed by two more when three children were struck by lightning. Bloemfontein Courant previously reported that Free State Education spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, had reported that learners from Oos Intermediate and Mokitlane Primary School were struck by lightning. According to Ndaba, the Grade 3 and the Grade 4 learner were reported dead, while the Grade5 learner was receiving medical care.
