The Free State police are investigating an attempted murder and rape case after a woman was allegedly stabbed and raped by three men at Lusaka Park, Theunissen.
According to the Free State police spokesperson, Palesa Thabana, the victim was walking through an open field with her two friends, they were then approached by the three suspects. “It is alleged that on Thursday, 26 December 2024, at about 04:00, the female victim and her two male friends were accosted by three males while walking through an open field in Lusaka Park. The victim’s friends allegedly fled the scene, leaving the victim behind. Two of the suspects were allegedly armed with knives. It is alleged that the three males robbed the victim of her cellphone before assaulting her and pushing her to the ground,” she mentioned.
Thabana further added that the victim was allegedly assaulted before the suspects proceeded to rape her. “Whilst on the ground, the three suspects allegedly took turns in raping the 20-year-old victim. The victim was allegedly stabbed and kicked multiple times. She sustained open wounds to her head and body. The three suspects fled the scene on foot and are still being sought by police.”
A facial composition of one of the suspects was compiled. The victim also recalled how one of the other suspects was referred to as Max.

Thabana called on the public to assist with any information regarding the suspects, “Police urge anyone who might have information that could lead to the arrest of the three male suspects to contact Constable Theo Weilbach of the Theunissen Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit on cellphone number 071 682 5093 or the Crime Stop Number 08600 10111 or alternatively an anonymous tip-off may be sent through the MySAPS App,” she concluded.
