Police in Bloemfontein are searching for suspects following the bombing of an ATM.
OFM News reports, no arrests have been made yet and a case of malicious damage to property and attempted murder was opened for further investigation.
According to Police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, the attack occurred on Tuesday when three men, reportedly travelling from Gauteng to the Eastern Cape arrived at a filling station in OR Tambo Street and decided to rest before continueing with their journey. The three allege that they were woken up by a knock on the windscreen.
According to their explanation an unknown man pointed a firearm at them and subsequently shot one of them, a 34-year-old victim who was sitting in the car.
The bullet hit him in the upper left arm. The victims were shocked to see approximately eleven men outside. The driver sped away as gunshots continued accompanied by a loud bang.
The employees at the filling station also heard the loud sound from their rest room. One of the workers at the station pressed the panic button and a security company reacted and arrived at the scene. The suspects fled the scene on foot.
The complainant alleges that the loud bang occurred as the suspects were blasting the ATM at the filling station. The 34-year-old victim who was shot at was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is receiving medical treatment.
