Three suspects were arrested outside Douglas in the Free State after members of the Douglas Neighbourhood Watch found the copper cable in their car.
A silver Toyota Corolla was spotted on the R357 about 10km outside Douglas on July 25 at about midnight. According to police spokesperson, Sergio Kock, the occupants of the car were stopped by the neighbourhood watch members in an attempt to conduct a search, during which some attempted to run away. A roll of copper cable worth R20 000 was found.
The neighbourhood watch members managed to arrest the three males. Police then assisted with the imprisonment of the three suspects. It is believed that the copper cable was stolen from a farm outside Douglas.
