SAWS issues level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has released an impact-based level 2 weather warning for Mangaung Metro, urging residents to prepare for severe thunderstorms expected on Tuesday (02/12).

According to the statement by MMM, the storms may bring heavy rain, localized flooding, damaging winds, hail, and intense lightning, all posing a high likelihood of minor impacts. “Residents and motorists are urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions both on the roads and at home,” the notice read,

Safety recommendations include driving cautiously and reducing speed when needed, parking vehicles under shelter to prevent hail damage, remaining aware of flying debris, avoiding sheltering under trees or small structures, exercising extra caution when crossing roads, and avoiding rivers or streams where water levels rise above ankle height.
