Flood warning issued for Modder River Basin as residents urged to stay alert

Residents living along the Modder River Basin have been urged to remain on high alert as rising water levels continue to place pressure on surrounding areas, with flooding already affecting key points including Mockesdam, Maselspoort and the Krugerdrift Dam system.

The Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality (MMM) has called on communities, particularly those near riverbanks and low-lying areas such as Sunset and Maselspoort Resort, to act proactively.

“Residents are strongly encouraged to remain alert and exercise extreme caution near riverbanks and flood-prone areas. We are seeing increased pressure across the basin, and it is important that people take early precautions to protect lives, livestock and property,” MMM said.
