Sassa says beneficiaries not affected by robbery at mall in Botshabelo

The SA Social Security Agency, Sassa, says it cannot confirm that a robbery at a mall in Botshabelo on Saturday was targeted at the Sassa grant money.
Sassa Free State Regional Manager, Sibongile Setlaba, says they are aware of the robbery at a grocery store in Botshabelo Mall. She says they are happy to report it did not negatively affect Sassa beneficiaries:”I wouldn’t say the target was Sassa because Shoprite is a shop in its own right. As soon as that robbery happened, we moved all our beneficiaries to other merchants that still had money.

“So what I can comment about is that our beneficiaries were not affected.”

Free State police have also confirmed the robbery that took place around 10am on Saturday morning.

Police say suspects allegedly dressed in the same clothes as the security company that transports cash presented an ID card to gain access to the cash office. They then drew a firearm on employees and demanded the keys to the safe.

They fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
