It says there have also been major improvements in the teaching and learning of maths and science subjects.
Provincial MEC for Education, Tate Makgoe, says the results of the first quarter indicate that learners’ performance has significantly improved as compared to the first quarter of 2016.
He says although the results have not yet all been compiled, it is still evident that there is improvement in the performance of schools and individual learners.
Makgoe says the number of learners obtaining 100 percent in physical science and mathematics has drastically improved.
He says there are definitely improvements in the quality of education as compared to last year.
He says if this trend continues then the province will definitely sustain its number one position in the matric pass rate.
