A police officer from Viljoenskroon in the Free State, who was a victim of a burglary while he was sleeping, did not waste any time and found the perpetrators shortly thereafter.
Police spokesperson, Peter Kareli, says three men were arrested the same day in connection with the incident yesterday. According to Kareli, Serg. Khitsane Mokothu woke up in the early morning hours for work when he saw his plasma television, kettle, and iron, among others, were nowhere to be found. Kareli says he then realised he was robbed while he was sleeping. He did not hear any noise.
A case of housebreaking and theft was registered. Mokothu then made use of his informants to assist with information regarding the robbers. It was established that the robbers apparently were his neighbours. They know him. A man was arrested shortly after at his house in Rammolutsi.
Two other men, who were in the possession of a plasma television and other electronic items were arrested shortly after. Mokothu was so determined to find the robbers that he used his own private car during the investigation to collect the stolen property.
Kareli says the suspects, aged between 28 and 34, are charged with housebreaking, while two face charges of the possession of alleged stolen goods. – Christal-Lize Muller
