Owners of illegal gambling machines are not aware

REFILWE MEKOA

Most people who have illegal gambling machines in their shops are not aware of the matter.

Matilda Gasela CEO of the Free State Gambling and Alcohol Authority says the illegal gambling machines are mostly used by under 18 year olds. She says foreigners duplicate the gambling machines. Gasela was speaking this morning in Bloemfontein at the confiscation of 120 illegal gambling machines.

She says it took them three years to gather all the machines from 81 gambling outlets around the province. Gasela says the gambling machines are shipped into the country in different parts.

“We are talking about gambling machines that are small and are made out of plain wood. They will have a slot and games on the machines. You can play by inserting the minimum money which is 50cent and maximum which is R5 and out of the machines the maximum money you can pay out is R50,” she says.

Gasela says in Hennenman Chinese men were found connecting illegal gambling machines. She says most of the illegal gambling machines can be found at grocery shops and the issue needs serious intervention.
