GALOOME SHOPANE Spelling is an important aspect of literacy. This is the message given to learners who are partaking in this year’s provincial Spelling Bee competition.
Speaking at the launch of the competition, MEC for education Tate Makgoe says such events give children self-assurance and attitude.
“It’s a partnership that is designed to increase literacy amongst our children and communities. We are very happy to be partners with the department of sports, arts, and culture,” says Makgoe.
The competition will run until Friday and coincides with the national book week, which aims to foster the love for reading, while this year’s spelling Bee competition goes under the theme Celebrating Reading.
