Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC Ntombizanele Sifuba conducted an oversight visit to the Mmabana Art Centre in Thaba Nchu to assess progress on ongoing renovations aimed at revitalising the facility. The upgrades form part of efforts to ensure the centre remains a safe, functional and inspiring space for community members involved in arts and cultural programmes.
According to the department, the MEC was accompanied by departmental officials and other key stakeholders to ensure that the evaluation is done accordingly. The visit focused on monitoring the scope of works currently underway, which include theatre repairs, mechanical and electrical upgrades, roof restoration, repainting, and broader maintenance of the facility and its external infrastructure.
“The maintenance and refurbishment of our facilities remain a top priority for the Department and the Provincial Government. We are committed to ensuring that centres such as Mmabana Art Centre are functional, safe, and inspiring spaces for our communities. By investing in these upgrades, we are not only preserving infrastructure but also empowering our people through arts, culture, and skills development, while ensuring that users and residents continue to benefit from quality services,” MEC Sifuba said.
The Mmabana Art Centre, completed in 1991, remains a vital community asset where individuals are trained and developed in music, visual arts, drama, and other cultural programmes.
