Over 30 000 one meal per day beneficiaries from the Frances Baard and John Taolo Gaetsewe Districts, will now receive more meals in a week than they recieved in the past.
The Northern Cape Department of Social Development and Wildeklawer Foundation have partnered in contributing fruits and vegetables to soup kitchens and drop-in-centres around the two districts.
The department’s spokesperson Conrad Fortune says the department has bought six bakkies to the value of R1.3 million to distribute the food.
"The department currently funds drop-in-centres and soup kitchens where community members can access a meal per day. So with funding or with the fruit and vegetables that we’ll be receiving from Wildeklawer, it obviously means that more meals can be served in a week and the drop-in-centres can utilise their funds and become more sustainable,” says Fortune.
