A 32-year-old Ficksburg man has been sentenced to 24 years’ direct imprisonment for the murder of his former girlfriend, Nomsa Kotope (24).
According to Free State police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring, the incident occurred in December 2025 when the accused went to Kotope’s residence, where an argument broke out between them.
“After committing the murder, the accused went to his current girlfriend and confessed to killing his former partner. She immediately reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest,” Mophiring said.
He added that the accused abandoned his bail application and remained in custody throughout the court proceedings.
“The matter was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions, culminating in his sentencing on 27 July 2026,” Mophiring concluded.
