Maluti TVET college employees lost faith in their unions

The spokesperson for the disgruntled Maluti TVET College employees, Diphaphang Mofokeng, believes workers’ unions based on campus are failing them.

According to him, they have lost faith in Sadtu and Nehawu.

This came after the group marched with students and some community members to the centre of the Department of Higher Education and Training yesterday (Wednesday) to hand over a memorandum of grievances against the principal. Diphaphang says they gave the department seven days to respond.

“The problem is that our unions are conniving with the principal against us and unfortunately, we no longer have confidence in them because Nehawu and Sadtu are constantly meeting with the principal and they have even issued threats, saying lecturers shouldn’t participate in any march and those who are part of it will be dealt with by their unions. We fail to understand why a union, that is supposed to represent workers, would issue an instruction against the workers. Hence we say that this march is not by any particular union.”
