Ladybrand crooks target Chinese shop owners

SABRINA DEAN – Police in Ladybrand are appealing to shop owners in the town to bank their money rather than keeping it at home.
This comes after at least four Chinese shop owners and their families have been targeted in a spate of home robberies over the last month. Police spokesperson Martin Xuma says police are searching for three suspects in connection with the robberies.
"We are currently looking for three masked suspects who are apparently driving around in a white bakkie," he says.
Xuma says in all the cases, the suspects climb over fences into the property, break through the burglar bars and then demand cash from the victims. He says the victims have been assaulted slightly but no serious injuries have been reported.
He says they have upped police patrols in Ladybrand’s residential area, as well as the CBD, and is appealing to anyone with information that could assist police to come forward.
