Higher traffic volumes expected from tomorrow

SABRINA DEAN – As traffic volumes across the country are expected to pick up for the annual festive season coastal migration from tomorrow, authorities are urging holiday makers to plan their trips.
N3 Toll Concession spokesperson Andy Visser says there haven’t been any major incidents along their section of the route so far but says all hands are on high alert for the anticipated rush:
“We do anticipate that volumes will start picking up from tomorrow with people heading down to the KZN coast and also inland. It’s quite difficult to determine what the impact will be, every year is slightly different, but we are all on full alert for the eventuality that we are going to see some heavy traffic volumes,” she says.
Visser says volunteer teams of paramedics and emergency services personnel are also stationed near the notorious Van Reenens pass and urges motorists to obey the 80km/h speed restrictions in the area.
She also advises travelers to rather sleep in and start their journey later as the worst traffic bottlenecks are caused by the bulk of motorists attempting to miss traffic by leaving early in the morning.
Other advice from Visser includes ensuring your vehicle is serviced before the trip, regular rest stops, obeying the rules of the road and not drinking and driving.
