A 35-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Welkom Magistrate’s Court for allegedly murdering a woman whose body was found with multiple stab wounds on Saturday June 12 at around 12:36 in Jan Hofmeyr Road near Manny’s Wholesalers.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, members of the police were busy with their day-to-day duties in Jan Hofmeyr Road in the direction of Manny’s when they were stopped by a driver who alerted them about the incident. The driver told them about a man who had allegedly killed a woman and that the suspect was inside a white Toyota Tazz which was heading towards town.

“The police gave chase and stopped the vehicle near the garage. The suspect was sitting at the back seat of the vehicle with his clothes full of blood and was immediately arrested,” said Makhele.

Police then went to the crime scene and discovered a 38-year-old women with multiple stab wounds alongside the road. Emergency services were summoned to the scene and the victim was taken to the hospital for medical treatment but unfortunately passed on.

The suspect has made his first appearance in court on 14 June 2021.
