As the end of the academic year slowly approaches, current and prospective students are gearing up to re-register and apply for a placement, securing funding could be a matter of concern.
David Gopane, Shoprite Group’s all-inclusive bursary programme recipient, says that benefiting from such a programme has changed his life and has granted him various opportunities in the retail industry.
“I completed my National Diploma in Hospitality Management in 2017 and proceeded with BTech the following year. While in my third year, I successfully applied for a bursary from the Shoprite Group,” says David.
The CUT alumnus, completed his qualification after which he was appointed as a trainee manager for the group.
Today, he is the Fresh Foods Manager at Checkers in Langenhovenpark.
“It was through the Trainee Manager programme that I was taught everything I needed to know about retail and that changed my life forever,” explains David.
Applications are now open for the 2023 academic year.
The bursaries – which include tuition, on-campus accommodation, and work-back agreements – offer high-performing students an opportunity to further their studies and then go on to work for the group.
Registered university students with a 65% aggregate or higher are encouraged to apply by visiting the bursaries page on www.shopriteholdings.co.za before 31 August 2022.
