More than three-hundred members of the Economic Freedom Fighters will be picketing outside Bothaville Court on Monday, when members of the ANC and EFF appear on charges of public violence.
According to the EFF’s Lejweleputswa Regional Municipality Chairperson, Mokabe Mafojane, they will be supporting sixteen of their members who were arrested last month. Twenty-nine people will appear in court for charges relating to public violence, malicious damage to property, arson and attempted murder. Out of the twenty-nine suspects, sixteen are believed to be EFF members while the remaining thirteen are ANC members. Mafojane said the picket will be peaceful and there will not be any trouble.
“We told our members that they must be disciplined because we don’t want to see our leaders again being arrested for public violence or illegal gathering. That is the reason we applied for permission to picket. What happened is that the EFF applied first to picket and then the ANC applied after us. We will be in front of the court while they will be situated a bit further from court. We are disciplined members of the ANC and nothing wrong is going to happen during that picketing time,” said Mafojane.
Last month, Bothaville was plunged into violence after residence attempted to confront Nala Municipality over poor service delivery.
