The Central University of Technology (CUT) Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences has celebrated the outstanding achievement of fourth year radiography student, Jayme-Sue Vermaas, who excelled at the South African Biathlon National Championships 2026.
Competing in the senior women’s category, Vermaas delivered an exceptional performance, breaking a South African record that had stood since 2023. She achieved an impressive total of 2167.58 points, securing the gold medal.
In addition to her victory, Vermaas was recognised as one of the top three athletes overall across all age groups and ranked among the top three swimmers at the event. Her performance in the 800m run and 100m swim further highlighted her athletic excellence, completing the race in 1:28 and the swim in 1:06.
The faculty commended Vermaas for her remarkable accomplishment, noting that her success reflects dedication, discipline, and the ability to balance academic responsibilities with high level sporting performance. She continues to serve as an inspiration to fellow students and the wider university community.
