Former member of Congress of the People in the Free State Gertrude Mothupi said she is happy to once again be an ANC member.
Getrude Mothupi said Cope spent most of its time in courts and didn’t deliver according to the principles set when it was formed. Mothupi said the infighting within the party caused Cope a lot of damage. She was speaking at an ANC press conference in Bloemfontein last week.
“I still feel that it wasn’t a wrong decision to join Cope because of what the party stood for. Though I must say, you can’t be in a party where you don’t know what is happening, and about the programmes and activities, so I felt I should leave the Congress of the People and what a better way than going back to a party that I knew,” said Mothupi.
Meanwhile Cope’s provincial former leader Casca Mokitlane highlighted that moving back to the ANC should prepare the party for more challenges. Mokitlane said Cope hasn’t been able to readjust itself to communities.
“Having travelled a less travelled road to form Cope as an alternative government I can today say without fear of contradiction that the Cope project has failed. The dreams that we had of Cope as a credible alternative in government have actually crashed,” said Mokitlane.
