Brave cops intercept robbery

Two brave cops, Constables Teboho Makhetha and Tlokosi Leine of Navalsig Detectives in Mangaung put their lives on the line to stop guns tottering and squeezing robbers.

Warrant Officer Zweli Mohobeleli from the SAPS said  it is alleged that on Tuesday 04 June 2013 at about 11:30, a 32-year-old security guard was confronted by two robbers after collecting cash from one of the stores at a shopping complex in Heidedal – Mangaung. He was disarmed of his firearm and a box containing an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.

In a knee-jerk reaction; Constables Makhetha and Leine who were at the shopping center, saw the robbers and gave chase. An exchange of fire ensued. When the dust settled, two suspects aged 42 and 38 were arrested. Three firearms, including the security guard`s and an undisclosed amount of cash was recovered by the police.

“We applaud the quick thinking and response of these brave officers. The space for criminals is indeed shrinking,” said Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khehla Sitole cheerfully.

Both suspects will appear in the Bloemfontein magistrates` court soon facing a charge of robbery.
