A 22-year-old man has made a shocking discovery while collecting scrap metal at Extention 20 in Jouberton, near Klerksdorp in the North West on Wednesday, as he found a baby alleged to be a day old.
OFM News Reports the man reportedly heard a baby cry and when checking he found an infant wrapped with blankets and surrounded by worms.
North West police spokesperson, Captain Sam Tselanyane, said the man called the police and other relevant stakeholders were also called to the scene. The baby was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
“Police have registered a case of child abandonment and the investigation continues.
The Klerksdorp/Tshepong Hospital Complex’s communication manager, Nico Masiu, confirmed to OFM News that the baby was admitted and that her current condition is stable.
The baby’s mother is unknown at this stage.
