The Mangaung Metro Municipality (MMM) has confirmed that water supply has been restored to most southern parts of the city, following a period of water rationing implemented over the weekend.
The temporary rationing was introduced as a necessary intervention due to critically low water storage levels and ongoing operational constraints within the municipal water system. Residents in affected areas had experienced intermittent supply interruptions as the metro worked to stabilize the network and restore pressure.
In a statement, the municipality expressed appreciation for residents’ cooperation during the challenging period. “The city thanks residents for their patience and cooperation during the water rationing. Residents are kindly requested to continue using water sparingly,” MMM said.
The metro added that while supply has largely been restored, water conservation remains essential to prevent further strain on the system, particularly as infrastructure maintenance and monitoring continue. Residents are encouraged to limit non-essential water use and report leaks or bursts to municipal services.
MMM has indicated that updates will be provided should there be any changes to the current water supply status.
