Free State police in Mangaung have arrested five foreign nationals, aged between 41 and 50, in connection with the murder of two unidentified women in Namibia Square.
According to Free State police spokesperson Mahlomola Kareli, officers discovered the bodies of two women lying in a pool of blood in a street in Namibia Square during the early hours of Sunday (08/02). “Both victims sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the back of their heads and were declared deceased at the scene,” Kareli said.

Following the discovery, police launched an investigation and acted on information received from members of the community regarding the suspects’ whereabouts. A multidisciplinary team later intercepted a white Toyota Quantum carrying four occupants. “In a striking turn of events, the vehicle was tactically stopped on the same street where the murders had occurred earlier that day,” Kareli added.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. All five suspects were arrested and are facing two counts of murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as contravention of the Immigration Act.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.
