Half of Bloemfontein has come to a halt earlier today after a sudden power outage in the city. Alleged rumors had people in a frenzy after word got out that a power station near Tempe had caught fire and exploded. Centlec spokesperson, Lele Momentu, said in an interview with Bloemfontein Courant that these are just stories and not the truth. Momentu reported that there was a fire in one of the fields near Tempe and that the smoke of this fire had interfered with their cables. Parts of Bloemfontein were left without any electricity. Store Manager of Chicken Licken in the CBD, Louis de Ville, said the power outage has had a major negative impact on businesses in Bloemfontein. De Ville made it clear “No electricity, no food, no business.” The northern and central part of the city are without power.
Momentu apologised for the inconvenience on behalf of Centlec, claiming that it will take about three hours to sort out the problem.
